Terrain in South East Asia (1964)

Synopsis

This is an army training film containing a detailed study of the terrain of Thailand and Malaysia (then called Malaya).

Curator’s notes

Produced in-house by Army Public Relations, this was a restricted access training film for Australian troops placed in South East Asian postings. It’s essentially a detailed survey of the topography of both Thailand and Malaysia (then Malaya) from a military perspective. As well as the conflict in Vietnam, Australian troops took part in the Indonesian Confrontation of 1963–1966. Units were deployed in Borneo and West Malaysia as part of a larger British and Commonwealth force, under Australia’s membership in the Far East Strategic Reserve.
