Clip description
This clip looks at the individual workers present on a dam worksite on the Snowy Mountains Scheme.
Curator’s notes
While predominantly about safety vigilance, the sequence is an effective illustration of rockfill and earthfill dams under construction on the Snowy Mountains Scheme c1960s. An array of earthmoving vehicles, including the sheep’s foot roller, is shown being utilised to slowly but surely build up the core of the dam wall. A range of technicians, machinery operators, skilled and unskilled labourers is employed on the dam worksite, the footage exhibiting the largely migrant makeup of the scheme’s workforce.
