Clip description
This clip examines the procedures involved in the preparation commencement and early stages of construction of Geehi Dam, a rockfill dam in the Snowy Mountains Scheme.
Curator’s notes
The remote location of the Geehi Dam, in the Snowy Mountains Scheme, meant that soil and rock for construction of the dam had to be accessed locally. Finding sufficient quantities of suitable material for the impervious core of the dam wall presented a challenge. Shot in the early 1960s, on and around the construction site and in the Scientific Services Laboratory in Cooma, this sequence illustrates the coordination of location soil sampling and scientific testing with the scheduled commencement and early construction phase of the dam project.
