Curator’s notes
Safety First set a fine example in communicating the road rules to children and outlining the dangers of the traffic. The success of this short drama with its cast of child actors probably influenced the style of future educational road safety productions. This film also, inadvertently, provides a glimpse of Sydney in the 1930s (note the relatively quiet streets). Developing road safety awareness among children remains a focus for NSW Roads and Maritime Services who have absorbed the functions of the Road Safety Council of NSW.
