clip Touring Service reps and mapping expeditions education content clip 1

This clip chosen to be G

Clip description

A Shell representative makes notes describing the construction occurring in his area to pass the updated information to the Shell Touring Service. A landslide and floods are shown as the voice-over continues to explain how the Service contacts Shire Councils and Police, by urgent telegram, to keep their information up-to-date. An ‘Around Australia Mapping Unit’ embarks on special mapping expeditions to survey the roads in the area. The 'touring officers’ are shown checking signs and having a meal break.

Curator’s notes

The footage of the severe flooding in this clip is possibly the Maitland floods that had occurred in the previous year.
