This program records Australia Post’s release of a special joint Australian and United States bicentennial stamp and a commemorative bicentenary book of stamps.
Curator’s notes
Australia Post released a number of stamp issues to commemorate the bicentenary of white settlement on 26 January 1988. Joint issue stamps were released with the UK, the US and New Zealand. This program consists mainly of footage shot at the celebratory launch of the Australian–USA stamp in Martin Place outside the Sydney GPO. The launch was one of the many festivities (and protests) that took place during 1988. This was particularly the case in Sydney, the city for which the date had the most relevance. The programme was completed on 2 February 1988 for quick distribution within the organisation and to clients.
