Curator’s notes

One of the fascinating aspects about this type of film, which combines animation and special effects with live action, is that it was one of the earliest techniques to appear regularly in films worldwide. Another example in the Corrick Collection is Comedy Cartoons (1907, US, directed by Charles Urban), which also transforms drawn images into live action.
