Clip description

Grace (Justine Saunders) returns home to not much welcome. Her niece Loretta (Roxanne McDonald) leads Grace to her recently departed sister’s room.

Curator’s notes

This clip gives a sense of the different trajectories of the once close sisters. Justine Saunders as Grace gives a compelling performance. This character whose voice we never really hear, whose thoughts are never really expressed, seems silenced by the grief of losing her sister, who we sense was her closest friend. Grace’s family resents her absence from their lives. The character of Grace makes one think of the many Indigenous peoples who, for various reasons, live estranged from their families. Grace now finds herself on a journey of remembering a place to which she once belonged.
