Clip description

A series of abstract symbols and recognisable images – such as sky, grass and a house – metamorphose against the backdrop of a colourful Australian landscape.

Curator’s notes

The film’s colour scheme of contrasting reddish browns and inky blues, together with some of its imagery – the weatherboard house with its galvanised iron water tank, for example – convey a strong sense of the Australian landscape. Other symbolic imagery – the sea, the egg shape – have more universal connotations. The film evokes a sense of the familiar, yet also strangely unfamiliar, common to dreams. The metamorphosing imagery and sound throughout the film provoke changes of mood from the serene to the disturbing.
