Clip description

In this sequence Cath (Lorna Lesley) is enjoying her new feelings of sexuality but her father (Martin Vaughan) punishes her for them.

Curator’s notes

The sequence powerfully shows the conflicting feelings of a young girl becoming sexually active. Cath rides through the rain on her bike feeling alive and sensual but her father can’t accept this and reacts violently. Later when she’s in bed he tries to make up, saying 'you’re too young for any of this nonsense’. This scene has an uncomfortable intimacy about it. Cath is getting mixed messages about sex, love and intimacy.
