Nganampa Anwernekenhe (1987 - current)
Mixed type series
187 episodes x 30 minutes
Series synopsis:
Nganampa Anwernekenhe means 'ours’ in the Pitjantjatjara and Arrernte languages. Over 180 episodes of this series have been produced and the primary aim of Nganampa Anwernekenhe is the maintenance of Aboriginal languages and culture. Nganampa Anwernekenhe is broadcast in Aboriginal languages, and is the only Aboriginal language program produced by and broadcast to Aboriginal people. The series is subtitled so that it is accessible to people who do not speak the Indigenous languages used in each program.
Nganampa Anwernekenhe is produced by Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association (CAAMA) Productions, the film and television production branch of the media company. CAAMA has 25 years experience of Indigenous broadcasting and media production with the Nganampa Anwernekenhe series symbolising the CAAMA ethos – to strike a harmonious balance between culture, language and filmmaking. The result is an emergent technique that allows the subject’s voice to shape the narrative.
Indigenous filmmakers that have come from the CAAMA stable are Erica Glynn, Warwick Thornton, Beck Cole, Allan Collins, Mitch Torres, Danielle MacLean, Rachel Perkins, and Priscilla Collins, to name a few.
