Clip description
A Glen Iris tram causes chaos when electric tram wires fuse, with the wire cutting into the road and tramlines. Passers-by stop to look.
Curator’s notes
This silent clip is a good example of building separate elements of an event to create an overall picture. The camera films the crowds, the stalled tram (from different angles), the fused electric wiring, and the tracks in the road. In this way, the viewer is provided with small pieces of visual information that combine to describe the whole incident.
