This clip shows a group of boys riding on the back of goats and children riding in billycarts down a street in Rockhampton, Queensland. The camera films them moving down the street and gathered in a group posing for the camera.
Curator’s notes
Newsreel items such as this provide us with a small snapshot of daily life as it was in the past. This clip captures part of a Rockhampton street in the 1920s, and an afternoon pastime – billycart riding – which is a long way from the way in which children entertain themselves today.
