Australasian Gazette – Mimic Warfare (1917)

This Australasian Gazette exclusive newsreel story from 1917 shows troops from the Engineers’ Depot rehearsing a raid on enemy trenches. Soldiers in training are instructed by their commanding officers by telephone.

Curator’s notes

Newsreels were an integral part of cinema programming in Australia before the advent of television in 1956. Issued on a weekly basis, the newsreels enabled people to further engage with local and national political stories and events.
