Australasian Gazette – Historic Cricket (1933)

This newsreel segment shows highlights of the second Test played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in the 1932–1933 series, which was won by Australia. It includes England’s Harold Larwood bowling to Jack Fingleton; Don Bradman batting as well as being bowled out; ‘Tiger’ Bill O’Reilly who was Australia’s newest bowler; and Herbert Sutcliffe batting.

Curator’s notes

Newsreels were an integral part of cinema programming in Australia before the advent of television in 1956. Issued on a weekly basis, newsreels enabled people to further engage with local and national political stories and events.
