Clip description
This clip from a colour home movie filmed by Ernest Gourlay features participants in the Queen of the Murray beauty contest 1952 including Miss Red Cliffs, Miss Murray Bridge, Miss Renmark, Miss Wentworth and Miss Mildura. Three young men dress-up in women’s clothing and smile at the camera. The participants model swimming costumes and the winner is awarded the trophy.
Curator’s notes
This clip captures the Queen of the Murray beauty contest during a period when beauty pageants were gaining in popularity.
The footage is simply shot and in-camera edits, where edits are created by turning the camera off and on again, have been used.
