Adults and children hold hands and form a large circle in the back garden to play the children’s games 'ring-a-ring-a-rosie’ and ‘oranges and lemons’ as children pass underneath the arms of the two adults.

This clip was filmed in February 1924 at Bryce Higgins’ fourth birthday party celebrations. It was most likely filmed at their Darling Point home in Sydney. The camera subtly pans across to follow the action and capture the atmosphere.

The children’s games seen here were commonly played at parties at this time, and are still familiar to children today. For another example of home movie footage that records these two games, refer to Archibald Family: Family Scenes and Outings in Sydney: Home Movie, clip five.
