Fighting the Flames (1909)
-
My grandfather was born in 1900 and grew up in Port Adelaide. He lived opposite the fire station and used to tell me how exciting it was to see the big gleaming black team of horses roar, clattering, out of the fire station, bells clanging, on the way to a fire. Seeing the team race up towards the camera in this clip allowed me to see his world for just an instant. The time machine that is film! Thanks! Paula.

Without doubt, this material is engaging, as the Curator says. But it certainly does not "show" what is stated -- "This is an engaging piece of historical footage which shows how firefighting technology has advanced in the last 100 years, as well as how transport has changed the way that the brigade operates." (copied from the notes). It does show the techniques of the date of the filming, so why not just say that?
