Clip description
A fixed camera shows employees emerging from the entrance to the Burgess Tannery for their lunch break. Many of the employees smile, tip their hats, wave or mock fight for the camera. The men range in age from young boys to old men.
In the following shot, a young child brings some lunch to a man talking outside the tannery entrance. Almost as soon as it is put down, an older boy runs over, drinks the man’s drink and runs off with his food!
Curator’s notes
Reminiscent of the Lumiere footage Workers Leaving the Lumiere Factory, this actuality footage is just one example of people Johnson and Gibson recorded leaving their place of work in Living Hawthorn.
Thanks to the generosity of the rights holders, we are able to offer Burgess Tannery from the historical Living Hawthorn as a high quality video download.
