This clip shows highlights from the sixth round of a boxing match between Les Darcy and Dave Smith in Sydney on 24 June 1916. The camera pans slightly with the action and films square-on to the boxing ring.
Curator’s notes
Les Darcy (the more compact of the two boxers, dressed in the longer tights) knocked out mentor and trainer Dave Smith in the twelfth round. The surviving fragments of this bout come from the first of two successive matches held between Darcy and Smith in 1916.
Thanks to the generosity of the rights holders, we are able to offer The sixth round from the historical Les Darcy vs Dave Smith for the Championship of Australia as a high quality video download.
