Clip description

Sonja Buloh (Kerry Fox) confronts her alcoholic father Bojan (Kristof Kaczmarek). Upset with him for not responding to news of her pregnancy, Sonja lashes out at Bojan.

Curator’s notes

The patchwork of flashbacks to Sonja’s earlier life comes to a head in this present-time scene. Bojan appears to have changed little in the 20 years since his drunken and abusive ways forced Sonja to leave home. The balance of power has changed; he is now a bitter and broke alcoholic who remains dismissive of Sonja and the news of her pregnancy. She is now mentally and physically strong enough to show her resentment, slapping Bojan and hurling at him the kind of verbal abuse she suffered as a child. The visuals are cold and blue, indicating the distance between father and daughter.
