Clip description

Jamie Vlassikis (Lucas Pittaway) has been woken at night by the sound of a motorbike being continually revved outside. He and his younger brother (who has joined him) look out the window and see the grinning culprit wearing a helmet, his motorbike right up next to the front door of the house opposite. This is the home of the paedophile who assaulted the two boys. The motorcyclist (Daniel Henshall) spots them at the window and grins across the road at them. When Jamie gets up the next day the mystery motorcyclist is at the stove-top frying eggs and bacon for a group sitting around the table. The stranger introduces himself as John and offers to cook him breakfast.

Curator’s notes

This is the fatal moment when the psychopathic John Bunting enters Jamie’s life as his mother’s new boyfriend. It’s clear from the motorbike incident that he’s a bit unbalanced, but the next day we also see a more warm and friendly side to him – despite his already showing signs of being obsessed with taking revenge against sex offenders. At this stage, however, that desire for revenge looks relatively petty and small-minded.
