Clip description

The mother (Kaarin Fairfax) sits forlorn on the porch. Her eyes search the landscape. She begins to sing. Her song moves her in the direction of the tracker, Albert Riley (Kelton Pell), who is chopping wood. Albert’s song joins with hers, and together, they move through the landscape, following what they believe to be the path Emily (Memphis Kelly) travelled one night when she followed the moon.

Curator’s notes

This sequence is the beginning of the climax of the film, an anticipated crescendo before the resolution. The emotional coming together of the mother (Kaarin Fairfax) and the tracker (Kelton Pell), who join in their unresolved intention to find the lost girl, is expressed through the merging of their voices in song. The direction of this sequence is reminiscent of the night time sequences, which linger like a mystical lullaby, immediately capturing the imagination of the audience, and drawing us in to the magical landscape of dreams.
