Clip description

Detective Sergeant Rose (Alan Cassell) inspects the counting house, with David Griffiths (Hu Pryce), a senior Darcys executive. Rose tells Robert Conway (Lucky Grills), the head of administration at Darcys, that he can find out who robbed the armoured car, in return for a cash contribution. A phone call from Rose arouses the interest of Jack Henderson (Charles 'Bud’ Tingwell), a major crime boss.

Curator’s notes

Interesting scene for its depiction of matter-of-fact corruption. The Welshman Griffiths is an ex-cop, so is Conway, but he’s local, and more aware of the rules of the game that Rose wants to play. Rose is an information broker for both sides – he buys and sells from the crims and the company. Many of the Darcys employees are ex-police, and Beresford clearly establishes the idea that they play by different rules, even from other police in other countries.
