Let George Do It (1938)

play
clip 'The hunchback of the motor-dome'

This clip chosen to be PG

Clip description

Joe (George Wallace) is being held by Zilch’s henchmen until he agrees to give them half of the money he is due to inherit. He and 'Unk’ (George Lloyd) try a bit of wrestling, which leads to Joe’s escape, head first through a window.

Curator’s notes

George Lloyd was a regular comic presence in late Cinesound films, and he’s in great form in this clip, as a washed-up wrestler who’s not too bright. Both he and Wallace were skilled physical comedians; both could play the mouth organ and both demonstrate their verbal skills here in a satirical version of a popular form of entertainment that lives on today in professional television wrestling programs.
