Clip description

June’s father, WJ Curzon (George Randall), gives her the prized horse Revolt on her birthday. June (Nonnie Peifer) attends a rodeo with Paul (Alan White) and is thrown by Revolt on the ride home.

Curator’s notes

The only song in Into the Straight evokes the ‘singing cowboy’ movies which were a staple of B-grade American westerns in the 1930s and ‘40s. Although the rodeo footage does not match perfectly with reaction shots of June and Paul, it’s an exciting sequence which shows the Englishman getting a taste of what rough-and-tumble life in the Aussie outback is all about.
