Clip description

In the dressing rooms, the Yagoona Schooners are paralysed with fear because they have to play a team stacked with rugby league legends. Luc’s grandfather (Dao Minh Sinh) and his room-mate Bob (Leslie Dayman) leave the nursing home to join the crowd at the final, beside Anne (Lisa Saggers) and the welfare officer Alison (Claudia Karvan). In the commentary box, Matthew Johns (as himself) declares he’s going for Yagoona. The Yagoona boys run out for a date with destiny.

Curator’s notes

Khoa Do makes good use of popular songs from the 80s and 90s on the soundtrack, building the sense of heroes en route to a slaughter. The Yagoona boys don’t have the money for proper sponsorship logos, so they use masking tape to represent their donors, who are watching from the pubs and shops of Yagoona, and the women’s correctional centre where Donald’s girlfriend (the one with the radio) is an inmate.
