play
clip 'She'd probably come across for any guy'

Original classification rating: M. This clip chosen to be PG

Clip description

Kevin (Paul Couzens) and Anne (Eva Dickinson) have broken up, partly because he let his mate Bob (Carl Steven) see them as they were starting to have sex in her bedroom. Drunk and upset, Kevin tries to talk to Bob, who is incapable of a serious conversation. Bob is secretly happy that he has his friend back, but neither is capable of saying what he feels.

Curator’s notes

This could be called 'the sorrows of mateship’. It’s almost comical, a bit like an update of Bill and Ginger knocking back a few in The Sentimental Bloke, with tougher language, except that it’s such a sad scene. It’s the closest Kevin comes to a statement of his anger towards Bob in the whole film, but it’s still just barely perceptible. He and Bob are mates – and in Bob’s terms, women never get inside that circle.
