Clip description

Darwin sky at dusk, then a map that illustrates the distance between where Kingarli was buried and the place where she was born – the same place her son Speedy and daughter Kathy Mills are trying to have her returned.

Curator’s notes

Overcoming the obstacle of distance presents itself as a problem in life and death for Kingarli’s family who must contend with bureaucracy in order to have cultural burial rights acknowledged. This culture clash is highlighted by Kathy and Speedy wanting to honour tradition and have their uncle ‘call’ their mother to country.
