Clip description

Speedy McGinness tells us about his mother, and how he wishes to return her remains to Gurindji land – the place of her birth.

Curator’s notes

Their mother was part of the stolen generation – ‘cheap labour’, Speedy guesses. The return to her own land allows Speedy and his sister to show respect for the passing of their elders. Speedy visits the graveyard where her mother lies – a white man’s graveyard, where most of those who were forcibly removed ended up.
