Clip description

Professional Australian surfing legend Pam Burridge talks about how she got into the sport, winning her first surfing competition at twelve years old.

Curator’s notes

This sequence shows how quickly and how far women’s surfing had come by the time Pam Burridge was considered the ‘world’s top ranking pro woman surfer’ when this film was made in the 1980s. She went on to become world champion in 1990. Her grace and skill are evident in the beautfully shot images of her surfing. The interview with Pam is an insight into why she became a champ.
