Was That Really Me? (1997)

Tracey Callender suffered from postnatal depression after the birth of her first child, Lee. The documentary tells the story of Tracey, her partner Simon and her mother June as they deal with the effects of her illness. Scenes from the birth and upbringing of the baby boy are re-enacted. Participants are interviewed along with health workers. With the help of medication and the constant support of her partner and mother, Tracey finally overcomes postnatal depression.

Curator’s notes

The linear story-telling combined with the willingness of those involved, especially Tracey, to reveal their feelings makes this documentary very engaging, as well as a valuable insight into the issues of postnatal depression.
