Clip description
Faith Bandler, an Indigenous woman, tells of her experience of the Women’s Land Army.
Curator’s notes
The interview with Faith Bandler reminds us that Indigenous and Islander men and women were also part of the war effort. She tells of her brother’s death on the Burma railway. Faith also raises the issue of the unequal pay and conditions between men and women – the downside of working in the Women’s Land Army.
Faith Bandler is a campaigner for the rights of Indigenous Australians, and played a major role in the campaign for the 1967 referendum on Aboriginal Australians.
