Curator’s notes

This fragment may be part of a documentary which was released in England and shown at Royal Albert Hall in 1923. It was directed by New Zealander Ernest Brandon-Cremer who worked as a cinematographer during the First World War and for Cinesound in the 1930s.

The expedition seen here was funded by William H Crocker, a philanthropist, and led by Doctor WW Campbell from the Lick Observatory in California.
