Clip description

Members of the crowd at the rodeo watch from the stands, sit down to a meal and picnic on the grounds. A man drinking a glass of beer is intercut with rodeo footage played in reverse to suggest he is hallucinating. An intertitle jokes about the rodeo, 'It’s easy! Try it on the clothes horse when you go home’. A competitor rides a bucking horse as the crowd watches from the perimeter and a man hurriedly crosses in front of the camera.

Curator’s notes

The competent camerawork follows the fast pace of the rodeo events. The action unfolding backwards is achieved by running the film in reverse as it is played through a projector. This effect is somewhat overused throughout the film, but would have had comic value for audiences connected directly with the event.
