Research on Survival in Bushfires (1963)

  1. Interesting clip!

According to this, the shelters have been in use for 30 years in the United States, but are not to be used in Australia (see http://bit.ly/H8irLy).

Also, generally firefighters do not wear reflective foil suits (with some exceptions such as in aviation firefighting). Bushfire protective clothing does not reflect or block heat any more than any other clothing (otherwise it would be a heatstroke risk), but it is treated with flame retardant so that at least it will not easily catch on fire.
