Clip description

An aerial shot shows the Clybucca Flat section of the Pacific Highway after the completion of reconstruction work by the NSW Department of Main Roads in 1976. Traffic passes over a joint in a conventional concrete pavement to illustrate the weaknesses of traditional concrete sectioning. As construction work at Clybucca Flat proceeds, a shoulder lane enables motorists to continue using the road. Earthmoving machinery excavates the sub-base and a trimmer-spreader and spreader-finisher lay the road surface. A voice-over narration accompanies the clip.

Curator’s notes

The technical detail and language used by the narrator to describe the project suggest this film was made for showing within the department and the construction industry rather than to the general public.
