Clip description
Kylie Tennant talks about going to Coonabarabran to marry Roddy and her short-lived membership of the Communist Party.
Curator’s notes
Tennant met Rodd, seven years her senior, at Sydney University where both were studying part time. Rodd was a teacher at Darlinghurst Public School and Tennant was freelancing as a journalist. Rodd graduated in 1931 but Tennant never finished her degree. In September 1932 Rodd was transferred to Coonabarabran and by November the same year Tennant had joined him and they were married. Marriage enabled Tennant to write full time, with the active encouragement of both her father and her husband. In this clip she talks about their early married life, their membership of the Christian Socialists and later the Peace Pledge Union, and her own truncated membership of the Communist Party of Australia.
