A Kid Called Troy (1993)

Eight-year-old Troy has contracted AIDS from his mother. His father, Vince, cares for him now that his mother has died. Troy requires hospital treatment and drugs to delay the effects of the medical condition. Troy’s death is not in vain as he has inspired many people with his bravery in his life and at school.

Curator’s notes

A straightforward documentary of the last year of eight-year-old Troy’s life. The film is enriched by the access given to the filmmakers as we witness his struggle to be brave in the face of pain and death. The documentary is a good example of the camera’s ability to portray human experience where other art forms are unable to make life so poignant.
