Clip description
Eighteen thousand of the Queen’s loyal subjects greet Her Majesty in Royal Park Victoria in 1977. The royal party stands on the dais while 'God Save the Queen’ is sung by the massed crowd. The royal party then drive, waving, through crowds of cheering children to the strains of 'Waltzing Matilda’.
Curator’s notes
The scale of the event gives a graphic sense of the relationship of Australia to the UK and in particular to the Queen at this time.
