Clip description

The men return from their hunting expedition having successfully killed a dugong. The women are waiting on the shore, and immediately prepare a fire to cook the dugong.

Curator’s notes

The different roles and responsibilities in the hunting of traditional food reveal the ritual associated with the killing of any animal in Indigenous communities. There are many complex laws surrounding the hunting and gathering of food, all of which are associated with cultural responsibility.
