Curator’s notes

Traditionally produced as a hobby by Eastern Arrernte men from the Santa Teresa community, when Johnny Young move to Titjikala he passed on the skill of making bush toys to the young boys. This sequence demonstrates how Aboriginal people pass on skills and knowledge to the following generation.

The clip showcases the creative works of Johnny Young, with attention drawn to the big splash his bush toys made when exhibited in New York.
