Clip description

Two long lines of seated men wait for food, while others pass out implements and serve. Ru explains the ritual experts make food for them to protect them from certain things and keep them strong, healthy and attractive. The men move hot rocks to the inner enclosure where pig is cooking. Ru speaks about the negative responses of Christian religions to the cult. A ritual expert trains them to do their movement altogether and Ru says that the Amb Kor has actually started.

Curator’s notes

The whole preparation and ceremony is an expensive undertaking and happens in stages. The ritual experts expect to be paid in pig meat and money for all of their services. Since Ru doesn’t have much land, he has to wait for the profits from coffee picking for the money which, of course, delays the ritual. He relies on his daughters, who raise pigs, for some of the cash and the extended family and supporters for the rest. After the coffee harvest, he achieves his goal, calls in the ritual experts again and the cult continues.
