Clip description

This clip shows some of the survivors of the bushfires. Private J Sparks from the 46th Battalion has only a heap of melted pennies and a returned soldier’s medal left after the fires consumed all his other belongings. The desolated gully, the remains of a railway bridge and a night view of the still burning fires is also seen. The final intertitle declares over £100,000 pounds have been subscribed.

Curator’s notes

The focus in this clip on some of the individual’s who were affected by the fires would have been used to create empathy for fire victims, and assist in fundraising efforts.
