Arthur Boyd: Figures in the Landscape (1985)
Synopsis
Arthur Boyd is interviewed in his studio in Shoalhaven NSW. The internationally acclaimed artist paints two large works depicting water skiers on the river nearby. He talks about his work. The documentary reflects on his early life in Victoria and his time painting in London.
Curator’s notes
This documentary is one of Don Featherstone’s earlier works about Australian artists. Featherstone created a good liaison with Boyd and consequently the documentary is informative and intimate. Featherstone went on to produce and direct many outstanding arts biographies, including: Difficult Pleasure: A Portrait of Brett Whiteley (1989), Lowering the Tone: 45 Years of Robyn Archer (1993), An Imaginary Life (David Malouf) (1997) and The Daylight Moon (Les Murray) (1991).
