Curator’s notes

Guided by artist Patrick Mung Mung, a Gija man from the Warmun community in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia, Perkins explains the story behind the painting Cyclone Tracy. Painted by Rover Thomas it presents an alternate understanding of the forces that created the cyclone in Darwin in 1974. It takes its audience into an Aboriginal way of understanding the relationship between natural and cultural worlds and highlights the role of art in Aboriginal cosmology.
