Advertising Missionaries (1996)

Synopsis

Wokabout Marketing is a troupe of performers who visit remote villages in Papua New Guinea and perform vignettes to promote the sale of Western products like soft drink and washing powder. Multinational companies have been paying for the actors for ten years. The documentary follows the troupe around New Guinea and records the reaction of the engrossed audiences. It also parallels the story with some glimpses of village life without Western goods.
