HQ Kingswood Sedan: Holden, the Great Way to Move (c.1971)
Synopsis
This is a black-and-white television advertisement for the Holden HQ Kingswood sedan.
Curator’s notes
By the 1970s, rising costs, declining profits and competition from overseas car manufacturers had reduced Holden’s market share. Despite this, the 1971 HQ – released three years after the iconic Kingswood sedan – was Holden’s biggest selling model to date. This advertisement is not the best example of the period but it does show the Kingswood in all its glory. It also highlights how the Holden brand had shifted away from its traditional customer base of the 1950s suburban family towards a younger, more mobile generation of consumers.
