On the road

Forget Mad Max – the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority collection offers its own unique spin on Australian road movies. The collection spans 50 years and over 75 movies promoting road safety, traffic engineering breakthroughs and new bridges and highways.

What goes into planning an expressway or building a bridge? The collection films on ASO offer an unusual perspective on Sydney in the ’60s and 1970s, showing the city from the ground up. You’ll certainly never look at concrete the same way again after viewing Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement.

The RTA is the government agency responsible for maintaining the state’s roads. It also runs a library and an Oral History Program. See the RTA website for more information.
