Sue Brooks and International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day on 8 March highlights the achievements of women past, present and future. We are celebrating award-winning director Sue Brooks, who made Road to Nhill (1997) and Japanese Story (2003), with our latest filmmaker interview.

Ray Argall speaks to Sue about her films and career, the significance of connection and a sense of place in her work, and capturing the essence of a story – a process she calls 'chasing angels’.

'The fundamental things about people going on a journey and telling a really good story and being emotionally connected to something or feeling like their life has been enriched by something, that remains as elusive and as hard to get [as ever].’

You can watch the interview with Sue here. The interview is accompanied by a stills gallery and a comprehensive screenography.

Our home page also celebrates Sue’s work along with films from other female AFI award-winning directors.
